Senior Engineer – Mission Data Analysis Engineer

What you’ll do:

•Analyze mission data from an operational airborne platform (As mission data comes in after a mission, analyze and understand the algorithm performance on that mission and identify/recommend fixes to address any issues; Address issues (understand issues/recommend fixes identified by the customer or prime contractor; respond to action items)

•Characterize performance of onboard mission algorithms – regression test and document performance of the algorithms over all missions – identify challenges and develop solutions (algorithm enhancements)

•Trend performance

•Characterize and analyze performance of the algorithms on all ground-collected data – recommend algorithm upgrades as appropriate

•Develop/upgrade analysis, visualization, and database tools to improve the efficiency of analyzing mission data

•Make report generation and new plot creation easy and repeatable

•Develop presentations and present results during customer telecons and face-to-face meetings

•Identify and fix bugs in the flight software

•Analyze and debug software and hardware issues including board failures and SW timing/synchronization issues

•Travel offsite to mission depot during missions to quickly analyze issues and fix on the fly

•Develop/present Ball assessment of issues that occurred during mission in post-flight team meetings at mission depot

•Determine avenues that will help better fulfill the customer’s mission

•Expertise in at least some of the following areas:

•Candidate should have proven experience in performing mission data analysis

•Develop, debug and test software in a variety of languages, e.g. Matlab, Python, C/C++, SQL, etc. to support modeling, analysis and characterization

•Mentor junior engineers in mission data analysis

•Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.

•Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business and Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

•Perform other duties as necessary.

What you’ll need:

•BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.

•Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

•Active security clearance required.

•Strong expertise in image/signal/track processing algorithm development and mission analysis.

•Strong expertise in software development

•Experience with GPU processing implementations desired.

•Experience with databases, SQL desired.

•Understanding and/or experience with embedded systems is desired.

•Understanding and/or experience with target and background phenomenology is desired.

•Significant experience with Matlab and/or C++ required; Python experience desired.

•Ability to operate at the system level and interface to all engineering disciplines.

•Self-starter, good interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently and on a team.

•Strong written communication skills, oral presentation skills and an ability to lead group discussions.

•Strong interest in analyzing mission data from critical operational defense systems

•Prior experience working in and with controlled, classified security environments is highly desirable.

Working Conditions:

•Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.

•May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.

•May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

•Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Verification that your current security clearance or government customer access meets the requirement for this position will be required.
