Engineer II – Spacecraft Command and Data Handling (C&DH)
What You’ll Do:
•Work within the Command & Data Handling (C&DH) subsystem team to support the definition of requirements, development of the architecture, implementation of the design, and verification of the subsystem for a spacecraft.
•Perform C&DH Engineering tasks throughout the lifecycle of programs or Research & Development (R&D) projects with direction from your mentor ◦Work daily with the larger C&DH team on technical definition, implementation, and verification.
•Establish strong working relationships within the C&DH team and with the system engineering team, integration and test team, and peers for the other spacecraft subsystems.
•Support the definition and maintenance of the subsystem architecture and interfaces.
•Generate verification and validation plans, and work with Integration and Test team to ensure the subsystem meets requirements. ◦Understand C&DH components’ interfaces.
•Support program gates such as the preliminary design review and critical design review.
•Provide inputs to estimate team labor.
•Provide and support systems analyses to verify that predicted and actual subsystem performance meets or exceeds requirements and specifications.
•Clearly and thoroughly document the C&DH approach in Systems Engineering Reports, including detailed description of technical designs.
•Prepare and give presentations to peers, management and customers.
•Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
•Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
•Perform other duties as necessary.
What You’ll Need:
•BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 5 or more years related experience.
•Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
•Current Top Secret security clearance.
•A technical foundation with a desire to learn and grow.
•Flexibility to manage differing technical opinions, evolving customer needs, challenging budgets and schedules, and limited resources.
•Effective in small team work environment with broad responsibilities and minimal oversight.
•A desire to learn and ask questions – our culture fosters intellectual curiosity in a highly collaborative environment.
•Superb writing and presentation skills.
•Goal-oriented with excellent organizational skills, a team mindset, and capable of coming up to speed quickly on assigned programs.
•Work is performed in an office, laboratory, productions floor, or clean room, outdoors or remote research environment.
•May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
•May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
•Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
This position is eligible for a Hiring Incentive of a minimum of $15,000 for external hires only.
Verification that your current security clearance or government customer access meets the requirement for this position will be required.
