The Operations Strategic Support Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution – from technologies and investments to supply chain, manufacturing and test operations, facilities management, and information technology services.
Technical Specialist Principal - Mechanical
What You’ll Do:
Perform mechanical assembly operations including bonding, staking, torqueing and critical moves. Work to detailed drawings in a clean room environment interfacing with personnel from different disciplines.
Perform critical match machine operations to tolerances less than .001 inch.
2-Axis CNC machining and programming.
Generate workflow and manufacturability aspects for program scheduling purposes.
Work with offload suppliers.
Functional leadership (Matrix Manager role) including performance review writing and delivering for team’s ups to 20 technicians.
Work with lower level technicians to effectively mentor and train in all operations of assembly.
Work with management on effective department staffing that includes interviewing and job assignments.
Work with Engineering for producibility efforts.
Maintain electronic build documents, required logs, records and reports in accordance with Ball Aerospace policies and government regulations.
Review and correctly interpret schematics, drawings, specifications, and procedures.
Be technical lead in Ball related assembly processes.
Support offsite operations that could include short and long-term travel.
Design and fabricate basic holding fixtures.
Work with management for capital planning for future growth.
Machine shop and assembly areas safety and planning for effective execution for program support.
Manage and maintain calibrated items and company assets
Make suggestions relating to the machining, fabrication and assembly to perform the most intricate machining and assemblies.
May participate in industry-wide working groups or seminars and be recognized by industry experts, suppliers, and customers.
May plan and commit resources, coordinate and lead the work of lower level employees to assure task completion.
Provide advanced instruction and training on specialized procedures and techniques to other employees, and may develop processes and procedures essential to departmental compliance.
Make continuous improvement suggestions, participate and lead projects in area of responsibility.
Effective communications and regular interaction with higher level management, customers, and internal and external auditors.
Review and accurately interpret schematics, drawings, specifications, and procedures for completeness and compliance to contract requirements.
Launch operations experience.
Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
Perform other duties as necessary.
What You’ll Need:
High School diploma or equivalent plus 18 years or more related experience or a related 2-year technical degree and 16 years or more related experience.
Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
TS/SCI clearance required.
Aerospace, spacecraft, instrument, sub-assembly, experience is required.
Environmental testing experience e.g., Vibration, Thermal Vacuum, EMI, Acoustic required.
Minimum 10 years’ experience with machine shop equipment including 2-axis CNC milling machines and tool room lathes.
Ability to lead team environment, interfacing effectively with both customers and team mates from different disciplines.
Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
Verification that your current security clearance or government customer access meets the requirement for this position will be required.
Relocation for this position is not available.
