SWCA Environmental Consultants Natural Resources Intern in Broomfield, Colorado

About the opportunity

SWCA is seeking a Natural Resources Summer Internto join our Colorado Front Range offices. SWCA offers an exciting work environment with projects in Colorado, Wyoming, and the surrounding region.

SWCA provides a range of services including ecological design, landscape architecture, environmental site assessment, resource identification, environmental planning, permitting, mitigation, restoration, and remediation. The Firm employs designers and scientists with expertise, interest, and experience to perform tasks with professional acumen and attention to detail. The Natural Resources department employs professional wetland scientists, certified soil scientists, certified wildlife biologists, GIS specialists, environmental designers and planners, and environmental engineers.

What you will accomplish

The Natural Resources Internship would focus primarily on assisting with natural resource field survey and reporting, but also include opportunities to learn about GIS, data analysis, permitting, and the primary regulatory drivers that influence project design in the environmental consulting industry.Work under this internship will be conducted for a variety of renewable energy, oil and gas, energy transmission, transportation, and land development projects.Projects typically include rare species and wildlife surveys, botanical surveys, vegetation surveys, environmental permitting, erosion and sediment control projects, wetland permitting and mitigation, and habitat restoration.

Minimum:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university, pursuing a bachelor's degree in an environmental related field, or a recent graduate within 12 months of May 1, 2021

  • Applicants that are pursing a Master's degree will also be considered. Ph.D. candidates are not eligible through this program

  • Must have completed 60 credit hours and a minimum of a junior classification by June 1, 2021

  • Applicant should be completing or have completed studies in the natural sciences such as environmental science, natural resource conservation, biology, wetland science, soil science, or natural resource management

  • Proficient in MS Office products

Preferred:

  • Proficient in navigation using various types of maps,GIS and field GPS experience

    Additional:

  • A resume and cover letter are required for consideration

  • This internship will be for the summer 2021 (June 7th-August 27th)

  • All applications must be received by March 12th

  • Selected candidates will be interviewed the week of March 22nd

  • Current valid driver’s license required

  • Able to safely conduct fieldwork in inclement weather, rugged terrain, and at high altitudes

  • Ability to work a varying schedule

  • Ability to travel, occasionally overnight, and up to 10 days at a time

  • Ability to safely operate an off-road motor vehicle and pass a MVR

  • Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds (in a backpack), as well as walk or hike for long hours during fieldwork
