Automation Controls Engineer (Centennial, CO)

POSITION SUMMARY: The Automation Controls Engineer reports to the Controls Group Manager within the F&B Engineering Design Services Team in Centennial CO. Experienced PC/HMI programmer with excellent communication skills and knowledge of process control systems in several industries. Individual must be able to perform independently or as a member of a project team. This position will be responsible for the electrical design, programming and start-up of CIP (Clean-In-Place) systems, facility cleaning equipment and chemical dispensing & application equipment. The designer will also be required to provide accurate and timely customer service assistance on previously installed systems. This position will be responsible to perform all duties in a safe and professional manner, both in the office and at customer locations (which will include manufacturing environments).

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering

  • 3+ years PLC/HMI programming experience

  • Experience in the Oil and Gas, Mining or Food & Beverage industry

  • Control panel design experience

  • AutoCad experience

  • Experience in industrial process control

  • Experience in ABB, Rockwell (AB), Siemens, PLC/HMI programming

  • Familiarity with electrical schematics and process flow diagrams

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to travel roughly 35%

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, Development, Testing (60%)

  • Develop PLC programs and HMI with or without existing templates.

  • Create site specific electrical drawings.

  • Develop PLC/HMI related equipment documentation.

  • Perform equipment check-out.

  • Interface with Sales and Project Management teams.

  • Coordinate project activities with other Engineers, outside vendors/contractors and customers.

  • Produce clear and timely documentation including trip reports and project updates.

  • Customer Support (25%)

  • Support of existing on site equipment. Includes phone and remote technical assistance/troubleshooting for installed systems.o Start-up and customer training.

  • Perform site surveys to identify and document existing customer equipment and processes.

  • Innovation (15%)

  • Assist with development of new offerings and updates of existing offerings.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Able to work in different working environments, including extreme weather environments, and independently in remote areas.

  • Able to stand for long periods and endure a lot of physical stamina due to loading and unloading work.

  • Able to lift, push, pull, and move up to 60 pounds.

  • Able to bend over, kneel down, reach upward, and pull equipment and products from ground level to heights being worked at.

  • Able to perform general office administrative activities of copying, filing, faxing, and using the telephone.

  • Able to climb stairs; work at heights, or confined spaces.

  • Maintain regular and on-time attendance. Position is 40 hours per week but may exceed 40 hours per week.

  • Travel by personal vehicle to work sites over a large geographic area.

  • Able to change a flat tire if needed.
