Join our team and thrive in a career that matters to the worldand you personally.ResponsibilitiesThe Electromechanical Control Department (ECD) is charged with theresponsibility of providing technical support in the areas of control systemhardware and algorithms for both spacecraft and launch vehicles. ECD subjectmatter experts specialize in key components such as gyroscopes, startrackers, encoders, motors, accelerometers, reaction wheels, faststeering mirrors, servo mechanisms, GPS receivers, thrust vectorcontrol, and others. The department performs both technical studies andexperimental investigations to support customer programs. Technical studiesoften involve the analysis, simulation, evaluation, or testing ofcontrol systems and their components. Experimental investigations may includecontroller design and implementation, data reduction and visualization,sensor and actuator performance evaluation, and electro-optical systemscalibration and alignment. Tasks typically involve interaction with governmentcustomers, program management, and contractors.Key FunctionsSupport multiple programs and work independently with both internal andexternal customers as a technical authority, consultant, primaryinvestigator, or project leader.Provide technical expertise in the area of electromechanical control systems.Provide oversight, guidance, and technical advice on customer projects,which may include specialized analytical and experimental studies forspacecraft and launch vehicle control system hardware.Verify contractor designs, approaches, and overall system performance.QualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in a STEM field, aerospace, mechanical, electricalor equivalentMinimum of 12 years of applicable professional or educational experience isrequiredRelevant experience in laboratory experimentation, developing teststrategies, experiment design, and integration and testA strong working knowledge of electronics, mechanical design andstructures, control systems, inertial sensors and actuatorsExperience with spacecraft and/or launch vehicle control hardwareExperience providingtechnical support in multi-program, multi-agencyenvironments with government program office personnel, engineeringsupport, and contractorsExperience training and mentoring less experienced technical staffThe ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with highermanagement, program offices, customers, contractors, and colleagues isrequiredWillingness to occasionally travel and to work off-business hours to supportcustomer needsAbility to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by theU.S. government.
