Join MITRE’s Nuclear Enterprise division supporting the modernization of our nations ground-based phased array early warning radars providing front-line missile warning, missile defense, and space surveillance capabilities.
The Missile Warning, Missile Defense, and Space Domain Awareness Sensor team provides engineering expertise in support of the modernization and sustainment of 5 geographically dispersed Phased Array Radars. These radars include the Ballistic Missile Early Warning Radars (BMEWS), the PAVE Phased Array Warning System (PAWS) Radars, and the Perimeter Acquisition Radar Attack Characterization System (PARCS).
We are seeking an electrical or radar engineer or physicist with knowledge of phased array and surveillance radars to investigate system anomalies, assess system performance, and guide the modernization efforts for these radars to meet evolving and emerging threats.
Performance of anomaly resolution and root cause analysis
Development of system requirements, modernization roadmaps, and test and performance modeling scenarios
Technical assessment of and recommendations on proposed hardware and software design solutions
Guide and recommend investment strategies for modernization
Data analyses, and collaboration with other MITRE offices as well as the prime contractor on analyses
Advise operational community on radar issues and behaviors
BS degree in Physics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Astrodynamics/Aeronautics, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent.
Demonstrated previous experience working to resolve “hard problems” in the DoD, other Government agencies, industry, or academia; particularly diffuse problems where successful root cause analysis of anomalous system behaviors requires out-of-the-box thinking
Experience with of phased array and ground-based surveillance radars
Good interpersonal and communications skills
Capable of team building and leading
An advanced degree in Physics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Astrodynamics/Aeronautics, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent
Previous experience with Nuclear Command and Control, Missile Warning, Missile Defense, or Space Domain Awareness missions is beneficial
Previous small, or medium sized team leadership experience is desired
Previous experience or expertise with radar systems is beneficial
Previous FFRDC and/or hardware/software laboratory testing/troubleshooting experience is desired
Top Secret preferred. TS/SCI eligible.
