Position Overview

This Engineering Manager is responsible for managing a multi-disciplined IR&D department of engineering test and evaluation resources. This position will focus on ensuring flawless engineering program execution and will lead the implementation of best-practice processes, tools and resources supporting the ejection seating systems business. This position is responsible and accountable to lead, mentor and improve the performance of the department. This position is a direct report to the site Engineering Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure top talent is available and manage staff assignments to the various product development, product improvement and value engineering projects

  • Promote recruitment of top talent and mentoring of employees

  • Establish and measure performance of organization and team member goals and objectives.

  • Work with engineering, program management, supply chain, and operations to develop market leading cost effective and reliable products, realizing the most value for our customers

  • Interface with other functions to support component and systems level engineering test and evaluation activities

  • Direct efforts that ensure testing and evaluation are conducted in accordance with customer and applicable specifications and regulations

  • Direct efforts that ensure organization compliance with EH&S processes

  • Lead development of appropriate training curriculums to improve the skill level of organization

  • Support teams formed to establish appropriate integrated engineering standards and standard work and ensuring the creation and deployment of these standards

  • Support organization strategy for requirements and knowledge management process and tools within the discipline

  • Support organization regarding regulatory participation and liason responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to and collaboration with other Engineering Departments, supporting technical issue discussion and resolution with customers

  • Support the execution of the annual technology development strategy

  • Define and coordinate activities in alignment with the flow down of annual strategic objectives

  • Support managerial concerns and accountability of project deliverables including cost, schedule performance, and resource allocation

  • Provide expert resolution of issues and monitor integration of work via common process

  • Define and analyze metrics to anticipate risks and develop corrective actions in support of all department objectives

  • Work across Value Streams to define best practice business processes and tools

  • Coordinate and utilize internal resources and those from partner business units, research center, and the global engineering center, as well as other potential research institutions and suppliers

  • Support Policy Deployment improvement targets and manage via a regular review process

  • Ensure business policy issues are resolved in a timely manner

  • Liaison with Executive Management

Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in related engineering field with 10+ years related experience.

  • A strong back ground in design/development/test/evaluation and high level of technical aptitude or prowess in the appropriate engineering areas

  • Knowledge of FAA and other airworthiness regulatory requirements

  • Demonstrated strong leadership and team building abilities

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, including coaching and mentoring

  • Strong Continuous Improvement and customer focus

  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to multi task and work in a fast paced environment

  • Experience leading others

  • Strong problem solving skills

  • Capable of working with minimal supervision

  • Ability to act strategically and tactically to support successful project completion

  • Ability to effectively communicate with and present to various levels within the organization

  • Ability to effectively use all Microsoft applications (Excel, Powerpoint, Word, Access, Visio)

Preferred Qualifications :

•MBA or Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred

•5 years’ experience in a technical managerial role in the aerospace industry

•Continuous improvement experience (i.e. lean practitioner or Six-Sigma)

•Aerospace and Defense industry engineering experience

•Prior experience in a shared services organization structure

•Development and/or application of formal new product development process

•Familiar with UTAS Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) and Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRL) and processes.
