  • This role reports into the Colorado Springs Product Development Engineering organization specifically supporting the CAPS team, Cobham Advanced Package Solutions. The ideal candidate is someone with a strong technical engineering, analytical and programmatic background, who has experience executing and managing complex engineering development programs across a diverse product portfolio, and who has proven capabilities to work across functions in a matrix organization to achieve operational results.

  • Direct engineering activities on development programs, in coordination with program management, to assure successful program execution for technical, schedule, and development cost objectives

  • Direct technical lead engineering and mentoring activities with other development engineering personnel, in coordination with product development engineering management. This position requires development of management skill sets with the team while maintaining individual contributor activities within projects.

  • In coordination with program management and the lead engineer, develop detailed program schedules and engineering work assignments, assuring clear assignments, visibility, and buy-in/ownership at all levels.

  • Monitor schedules and manpower loading requirements for engineering tasks on an on-going basis, identify issues, and develop and implement workarounds with the engineering team to maintain schedule and program objectives

  • Collaborate with operations and sustaining engineering to transfer new package assembly technologies and/or new products into manufacturing to facilitate volume production capability

  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical oversight of design activities in coordination with the lead engineer to drive adherence to program requirements

  • Work collaboratively with manufacturing engineering to assure that design-for-manufacturing, design-for-test and design-for-reliability principles are applied during the development phase for a given program

  • Provide accurate and timely risk and opportunity assessments, decision making, and root cause corrective actions (RCCAs)

  • Coordinate document and drawing releases with the engineering, design, and material planning functions

  • In coordination with the lead engineer and supply chain, contribute to appropriate vendor selection decisions and vendor development/qualification activities

  • Lead, participate in, and facilitate continuous improvement efforts related to engineering development, test readiness, production readiness, and other engineering-related topics using Kaizen, A3, and other continuous improvement methods

  • Manage engineering Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data collection and reporting for assigned development programs, in order to drive improvements in engineering performance metrics

  • Ability to apply sound technical and programmatic judgment, make impactful decisions in complex and ambiguous situations, often with incomplete data, reaching out to Subject Matter Experts when necessary

  • Ability to work within a matrixed management structure in an agile manner, utilizing lean development methods such as SCRUM

  • Ability to build excellent relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring “cross-pollination” of insights and experiences

  • Ability to ensure effective design discussions occur at all levels

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, employing diplomacy, confidence and tact; assertive without antagonism or alienation

  • Critical thinking knowledge to identify and investigate potential risk areas, conduct root cause analyses, and work with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, create reports, and present findings to panels, groups, teams, or departments as required

  • Ability to strongly mediate and develop alternate approaches when there are diverse and conflicting needs in order to achieve positive outcomes

  • Good engineering work practice/ethic, self-motivated, and reliable

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver on-time and work well with multi-discipline team members and organizations

  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with Cobham senior management, as well as internal and external customers

  • Ability to role-model for the organization in line with Cobham’s SPIRIT values, exhibiting exemplary leadership behavior and emotional intelligence

Minimum:

•Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physics

•Four (4) + years of development experience in microelectronics semiconductor package technology design, RF packaging, or advanced packaging solutions to include experience in coordinating multi-discipline engineering development teams in a high-tech manufacturing company

•Four (4) + years of experience in managing technical efforts, including scheduling and action items for development program. Ability to effectively communicate across functions, to management, and to customers

•This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a “US Person” under US export laws (or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license)

Preferred:

•Advanced Engineering or Physics degree; e.g., M.S. or Ph.D. degree

•Active SECRET security clearance

•Experience in program management

•Experience in driving engineering processes, practices, and measures of performance and proven track record with continuous improvement achievements in engineering organizations

•Certification in Lean 6-sigma methods

•Certification in SCRUM agile development methodology

•Experience working in and driving results in a matrix organization

•Experience interfacing directly with customers, both internal and external

•Business development experience, including responsibility for program budgets, cost estimates, resource planning, and proposals

•Industry presence in semiconductor and packaging organizations; e.g., JEDEC

Salary Range:

$96,527 - $126,691

Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
