Role Summary/Purpose

L3 Space & Sensors is currently looking for an Aerospace Avionics Sensors Subject Matter Expert (SME) with a broad range of experience that supports the specification, analysis, implementation, optimization, and troubleshooting of transducers and related interface avionics for use on space launch vehicles. The successful candidate needs an understanding of the specification and design of various transducers/sensors/actuators and electrical interface equipment used to drive, command, and monitor those sensors for aerospace applications. The candidate must specify sensor components to meet system needs, analyze sensor interface electronics, simulate and model transducer/sensor/actuator systems, and conduct hardware testing on sensors and related electronic systems. The individual must create detailed specifications to procure transducer/sensor/actuator hardware, evaluate performance data to assess system level performance, and troubleshoot and correct system faults. The individual will be the technical point of contact for both customers in the system application of transducer/sensor/actuator hardware and vendors for detailed design parameters and technical oversight. This position focuses on the application of transducers/sensors/actuators with avionic equipment and does not include the detailed design of transducers/sensors/actuators themselves.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Act as the central customer technical point of contact for space launch vehicle transducer and sensor hardware in evaluating new system designs and supporting existing designs.

  • Support, evaluate, and oversee component hardware vendors in the manufacture of transducer/sensor/actuator components and interface electronics for space launch vehicle and satellite applications.

  • Analyze transducer and sensor performance for launch environmental conditions, worst case performance, and reliability performance.

  • Utilize analog simulation and modeling tools to predict performance.

  • Document test results, resolve failures to root cause, and work with internal and external customers to implement repair and improvement plans.

Qualifications

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering degree is required. A master’s degree is preferred.

  • Experience: Ten (10) years of experience in the design, test, troubleshooting, or specification of aerospace-grade transducers/sensors and their application in avionics systems is required.

  • Design skills: Ability to construct electrical simulations to assess sensor performance, detailed knowledge of transducer/sensor characteristics for aerospace applications (particularly temperature, pressure, mechanical position, and tachometer sensors), ability to recommend particular hardware components to meet system-level performance parameters, and knowledge of transducer/sensor/actuator test and qualification procedures.

  • Computer skills: Ability to use analog simulation software, knowledge of transducer/sensor/actuator modeling techniques, and ability to perform performance analysis and hardware tests.

Competencies / Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with electrical and mechanical aspects of transducers and sensors for space launch vehicles and satellite applications preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work directly with customer technical and program management teams

  • Time Management & Organizational skills: ability to plan effectively using various scheduling tools, flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and assignments, ability to maintain confidentiality.
