Construction Engineer/Inspector I
Merrick & Company is seeking a Construction Engineer/Inspector I with experience in civil design and construction engineering of various utilities including water and sewer pipelines, water and wastewater treatment plants, drainage structures, land development, and civil infrastructure projects to join one of Colorado Water offices. This is a temporary position and benefits are provided for the duration. Field work will be 50 - 100% depending on the project assignments. There is the possibility of full time employment in lieu of temporary.
The Construction Engineer works for a project manager and/or project engineer as the civil designer and to perform constructability reviews of designs and construction drawings. This position would also provide construction administration and observation services for various utilities, including water and sewer pipelines, water and wastewater treatment plants, other water or wastewater facilities, drainage structures and facilities and includes the ability to self-perform said services, and to proficiently manage and schedule other engineers, designers, and construction observation personnel. Interface with clients, subconsultants and contractors during the performance of said duties is also required.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in civil design and construction management of water and wastewater projects and other construction experience.
Water and wastewater experience is preferred.
AutoCAD C3D drafting skills is preferred.
Professional Engineer license and/or EIT in the State of Colorado is a plus.
Bachelor of Sciences degree in Construction Management preferred.
Additional field experience may be substituted for education.
Observing, reviewing, monitoring or otherwise addressing the appropriateness, performance and timeliness of construction related work performed under the contract or as specified by client.
Knowledge and understanding of project documents, including contract documents and technical specifications.
Role as owner’s representative during the construction phase.
Development and maintenance of project data and files, including record documents, correspondence, RFIs, change order requests, pay requests, shop drawings, etc.

Able to climb ladders or walk into/access safe utility trenches
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Comfortably climb or descend short hills by foot and walk/stand on uneven ground

The worker will be subject to typical utility installation construction hazards such as construction machinery noise, backup signals, and vehicle traffic.
Most work is outside and worker will be subject to typical weather environments that vary significantly.
This job occasionally operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as but not limited to: computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and scanners.
Position will require trips to client sites, which may include water or wastewater treatment plants, lift stations, pump stations, drainage structures, and other civil infrastructure facilities.
Candidate must be willing and able to take and comply with various safety requirements and work in noisy environments while executing their assigned tasks.
