HNTB OCS and Traction Power Engineer III in Denver, Colorado

What We're Looking For

Within the OCS or Traction Power discipline, is fully competent to complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. On tasks basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs. Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Prepares OCS structure and wiring layouts plans

  • Prepares OCS assembly and component drawings

  • Prepares Load Flow Analysis reports

  • Prepares conduit and cable schedules

  • Ability to design on screen in production of CAD drawings

  • Supports and directs the OCS or Traction Power engineering and design/drafting staff

  • Conducts OCS or Traction Power construction cost estimating

  • Performs structural design calculations

  • Cooperates with adjacent system-related disciplines such as track, signals and communications

  • Occasionally supervises and schedules work for other team members

  • Works in collaboration with other offices within the company

  • Participates in project working meetings

  • Conducts design and constructibility reviews of plans

  • Assists Senior Engineers and Project Managers with preparation of weekly and monthly program updates and reporting

  • Assists Senior Engineers and Project Managers with management of design review process and permitting through outside agencies

  • Coordinates with construction observers, consultant engineers, utility coordinators, and right of way coordinators

  • Conducts reviews and makes recommendations of approval of potential construction change orders, utility agreements, and construction & utility pay estimates

  • Updates and maintains master schedule for the program

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • PE preferred or working toward becoming a PE

  • 2+ years’ experience specifically in OCS or traction power engineering

  • Hands on experience in OCS or Traction Power

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD software

  • Familiarity with agency design criteria and IEEE, AREMA, CPUC and other codes and standards

  • Experience working with west regional rail clients such as Sound Transit, BART, LA Metro, Denver RTD, UTA and VTA

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.

  • Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

  • Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 5 years relevant experience
