Position Overview
The Staff Engineer, Renewable Procurement will be responsible for assisting in the formation of Invenergy’s Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) procurement strategies through the technical evaluation of multiple PV Modules and Inverters, Trackers, and BESS technologies. The position will be based in either Denver, Colorado or Chicago, Illinois and will require travel up to 25% of the time. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Renewable Procurement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform technical due diligence on PV Module, Inverter, Tracker, and BESS technologies to evaluate for implementation in Invenergy’s solar and storage development projects.
Coordinate with OEM’s to review Research and Development (R&D) programs
Translate OEM technology roadmaps for internal use and modeling exercises.
Coordinate with OEM’s, Testing Laboratories, and Independent Engineers to perform performance and extended reliability testing.
Review and maintain database of OEM production and Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) programs. Provide regular reports to senior management detailing QA/QC and logistics for active projects.
Collaborate with engineering procurement, project engineering, project estimating, construction, and operations teams to analyze procurement options and to assist in making equipment supply recommendations that best position Invenergy’s pipeline of solar and energy storage projects.
Required Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in a physical science or related technical discipline, including but not limited to Physics, Chemistry, Engineering
Zero to three years of experience in the renewable energy industry
Understanding of supply chains and manufacturing processes
Database management skills
Ability to multi-task and manage multiple deliverables and projects at a time
Excellent verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated interest in renewable energy
Desire to work in a dynamic environment alongside people with multiple interests and backgrounds
Domestic and International travel required
Preferred Skills:
Master’s degree in a relevant physical science discipline is a plus
Experience evaluating battery chemistry for energy storage applications
Understanding of BESS integration and Battery Management Systems (BMS)
Experience performing quality audits
Familiarity with energy modeling software including PVSyst and SAM
