Your Opportunity

This opportunity is for a junior (EIT) to mid-level traffic engineer with three to ten years of professional experience in traffic engineering and/or transportation planning. The position will involve conducting and/or managing traffic engineering, planning, and design projects; business development; and project management and coordination with counterparts in other Stantec offices. Candidates for this position should have interest and project experience in most of the following areas: traffic signal timing, capacity & safety analysis, transit system planning, traffic impact analysis, traffic modeling using Synchro/SimTraffic and Vissim, bicycle & pedestrian planning and design, travel demand modeling, signing, striping, traffic signal design, ITS design, ITS System Management, and corridor and area-wide planning.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Performs civil or transportation engineering design tasks on assigned Transportation related projects.

  • Performs basic calculations.

  • Assists in the preparation of engineering project documents, client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.

  • Attends and assists in client/contractor/stakeholder meetings to gain a better understanding of client’s goals.

  • Prepares site assessments, facilitates plat and permitting processes.

  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.

  • Manage and/or conduct transportation engineering studies, including but not limited to, corridor study, intersection improvements, network study, system engineering, and value engineering.

  • Manage and/or conduct traffic modeling tasks including travel demand model, mesoscopic and microscopic simulation models.

  • Trains less experienced team members in day-to-day activities including routine technical design, processing and company procedures.

  • Utilizes relevant software programs to prepare exhibits and complex working drawings. Continues to develop skills using software programs for design and/or drafting.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.

  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.

  • Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado, or the ability to acquire Colorado PE license within one year of hiring.

  • Minimum three years of experience in traffic engineering and transportation planning.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Knowledge of Synchro/SimTraffic, Vissim, Visum, TransModeler, TransCAD, HCS, Sidra, AutoCAD, and MicroStation. Experience in some of these modeling/design applications is highly desired.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil or Transportation Engineering & EIT; Minimum of 3 years of experience. Licensed PE or working toward licensure.

Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
