Job SummaryResponsible for defining and overseeing implementation of certification engineering requirements for United Rotorcraft, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)/Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) and engineering activities. Responsible to derive, define, and apply design requirements from the regulations for implementation by technical staff. Prepare and completion of Compliance Checklists, Certification plans, Conformity Inspection Plans, and compliance summaries for assigned Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) projects. Work effectively in a multi-disciplined environment of structures, mechanical/electrical systems, and avionics commonly found in aircraft certified under 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) part 25 and 29, and in US Military aircraft. Significantly impacts the company’s ability to consistently meet regulatory, commercial, and technical obligations utilizing strong problem solving skills.Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following: • Review previously produced certification documents, drawings, technical data, and test data as benchmarks for preparation for preparation of future documents.• Prepare documents and plans that assure United Rotorcraft Engineering projects comply with regulations. This includes the preparation and completion of compliance checklists, certification plans, conformity inspection plans, and FAA forms as applicable.• As a member of the design team (project engineer, functional lead, and certification engineer), coordinate and finalize the preparation of certification documentation per project compliance check list. This includes, but is not limited to, Structural/Mechanical/ Electrical/Avionics Compliance documents, Standard Parts Lists, Commercial Parts Lists, Test Plans, Test Reports, ICA’s, RFMS’s, etc. Participate in preparation/revision of configuration control drawings, listings and indexes, and flammability requirements as required.• Participates in product design reviews, and provide actionable design guidance related to the product’s test and certification plan. Prepares STC project certification summary reports providing a detailed overview of 14 CFR compliance.• Represent department during meetings with program management, other senior leaders, and general staff as noted above, and with government representatives (Internal and external). • Participates in administrative tasks related to operating the department such as (but not limited to) participating in department meeting, training and development activity, accurately recording time and labor.• Other Duties as assigned.Additional Job Requirements• Regular scheduled attendance• Indicate the percentage of time spent traveling 3%Subject to applicable laws and Air Method’s policies, regular attendance is an essential function of the position. In accordance with applicable laws, Air Methods will provide reasonable accommodations that do not create an undue burden so disabled employees may perform the essential functions of the position.Education & Experience• Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Aeronautical, Mechanical or Electrical from four-year college or university, or five to eight years’ experience in an authorized repair station working directly with records required to alter, repair, maintain and return-to-service 14 CFR part 25, part 27, and/or part 27 aircraft.• 5-8 years analysis, design and development experience in aviation field or equivalent and related military experience preferred.• 3-5 years’ experience performing tasks consistent with Certification Engineer 2 or equivalent experience preferred. • Advanced knowledge and understanding of the FAA certification process, with familiarity and experience with 14 CFR and Department of Defense (DOD) regulatory requirements preferred• Direct experience working with FAA personnel and designees.• Direct experience developing and administering aircraft maintenance and flight manual supplements.• Documented performance on two of the three following types of certification programs: structures, systems, avionics/electrical.• Foreign STC experience and experience in certifying or working with military aircraft programs preferred• Familiarity with Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) safety analysis methodologies, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA)/failure modes effects and criticality analysis (FMECA) methodologies, and sufficient experience and expertise to apply these methods to a certification project.• Familiarity with common test and qualification protocols such as DO-160 and Mil-Std-810 preferredSkills• Incumbent may mentor and oversee work product of less senior certification engineers – strong leadership skills are preferred• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a high degree of collaboration at all levels• Ability to be a team player with a professional attitude striving for continuous improvement• Excellent written and verbal communication skills• Excellent organizational skills, detail oriented, ability to prioritize and multi-task and meet deadlines.Computer Skills• Proficient with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook• Proficient with Adobe Acrobat• Basic experience with CAD software packages such as SolidWorks preferredCertificates, Licenses, Registrations• A&P licensees, Engineering in Training (EIT)/Professional Engineer (PE) certifications, and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), National Center for Aerospace & Transportation Technologies (NCATT) and Aircraft Electronics Technician (AET) preferred“Air Methods is an EEO/AA employer.
