As a mission design engineer, you will perform the modeling andsimulation of multi-domain space mission architectures (launch vehicles,spacecraft, and sensors), as well as analyze a wide variety of solutionsto meet our customer's mission need. You will have great latitude to becreative, conceiving and testing various approaches to determine which isbest suited to meet technical and programmatic objectives. You will workacross our engineering product teams to recommend candidate approaches thatsupport the objectives, operational concepts and interfaces at themission, segment, system, and sub-system levels. You will identify keyperformance parameters and constraints to enable mission success and futurecapAt SNC's Space Systems Group (SSG) we are not only the creator of theDream Chaser spacecraft, but also the designer and manufacturer of rocketengines and components, systems that sustain life in deep space, as wellas systems and satellites that improve life here on Earth. The work of ourSpace Systems team not only supports the U.S. government (includingNASA), but also commercial customers and international organizations.As a Space Mission Design Engineer at SNC, your focus will be designing andoptimizing space missions for both civilian and DoD applications byunderstanding, analyzing and evaluating satellite and constellationcapabilities and mission concepts. Your work will ensure we meet customerrequirements by making data-driven decisions in constellation building,planning, and tasking. You will build tools and perform analyses of variousarchitectures that include space vehicles, satellites, sensors,communications, and ground infrastructure; evolving or creating newapproaches based on analysis results. You will also evaluate the missioneffectiveness of the candidate approaches, balancing mission objectivesagainst factors such as development and lifecycle costs.Must-haves:Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering, Physics or related disciplineand typically 10 or more years of relevant experience.Experience performing astrodynamics modeling, simulation and analysis usingtools such as STK and FreeFlyer.Experience developing physics based space vehicle models and simulations usingsoftware and software languages such as MATLAB, Python, or C++.Experience integrating COTS packages (STK, FreeFlyer) with custom modelsor extensions (MATLAB, Python, C++, etc).Desire for new challenges, to be on the ground floor of an excitingcapability for our nation, and to be part of the initial cadre developing anew multi-domain system.Willingness to work on a small team performing complex engineering designevaluations for a diverse mission where everyone has input matters.Experience working on multi-disciplinary design and development teams.Thorough understanding of systems engineering principles and an understandingof the relationships between Modeling and Simulation, requirements analysis(RA), CONOP development and Verification and Validation (VandV).Preferred:An active Top Secret with SCI eligibility U.S. Security Clearance stronglydesired.Masters of Science degree in Engineering, Physics or related discipline andtypically 8 or more years of relevant aerospace experienceExperience performing Design and Optimization of spacecraft constellations.Advanced experience with requirements management and system modeling tools,such as SysML, Cameo Enterprise Architect, Teamwork Cloud, DOORS,Unified Architecture FrameworkExperience modeling advanced phenomenology such as electromagnetic signals,optical and RF sensing, or radar systems experience highly desiredExcellent communication skills (written and verbal).
