DescriptionJob SummaryResponsible to review designs, evaluate their load bearing capabilities,recommend materials and geometries to assure designs perform adequatelystructurally in commercial and military aircraft. Evaluates designs forstatic, dynamic, and shock performance using a variety of analytical toolsand techniques. Oversees the creation and execution of structural test plansused to verify performance of analytical models or large scale structures. Mayassume certain project engineering tasks and activities specific to area ofexpertise. Leads other specialists in their activities to complete overallproject goals. Provides interface with external experts in similar and relateddisciplines. Serves as corporate resource in developing analysis andqualification direction for different projects. Works closely with programmanagers, project engineers, and production personnel on a wide range oftechnical and operational issues related to design, manufacture andqualification of new and existing designs. As an FAA, EASA or otherregulatory bodies Designated Engineering Representative (DER), theincumbent reviews designs for compliance with appropriate regulations,orders and laws, Serves as de facto government authority in reviewing andaccepting data, designs, and analysis.Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:* Reviews technical reports for completeness, correctness, and compliancewith contractual and regulatory requirements. Approves technical reports inthe area of structural analysis on behalf of the Engineering Department.* Reviews and approves technical data for major alterations on behalf of theFAA as either DER, or ODA UM. Reviews and approves technical data for majorrepairs on behalf of the FAA as DER or ODA UM. Includes required training tomaintain currency with DER/UM requirements.* Provide technical and regulatory guidance to the project, engineering andcertification team. Leads analysis efforts by developing and determiningappropriate analysis approach for the project. May included advanced methods(such as FEA) or design and completion of different test programs. Guidesand directs more junior team members in application of appropriate methods.* Review, implement, and coordinate structural analysis requirements onmilitary projects. Includes interfacing with prime contractors and militaryregulatory bodies.* Leads the structural analysis team in proficiency gains by providingtraining opportunities, encouraging a learning environment, and byappropriate task assignment and delegation. Leads the structural analysis teamin efficiency gains through improvement and innovations within the team'stechnology, processes, methods and techniques.* Reviews and approves technical documentation of aircraft installations andmodifications to verify safety of the installation/modification andcompliance with regulations.* Coordinates efforts with engineering analysis vendors and structural testingvendors.* Other Duties as assigned.Additional Job Requirements* Regular scheduled attendance* Indicate the percentage of time spent traveling: 5%Subject to applicable laws and Air Method's policies, regular attendanceis an essential function of the position.
