Position: Commissioning Technician II

Location: Lakewood, Colorado

Firm: BG Buildingworks, Inc. (BG) is a mid-size mechanical, electrical, plumbing, technology, lighting, acoustics engineering design and facility commissioning consulting firm. We have multiple offices located in the Western United States including Avon, Colorado; Denver, Colorado, Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Classification: Exempt

Education/Registrations: High School Diploma, Technical training required, College preferred

Registrations: CxA/BCxP/CCP certification preferred. Additional certification in NEBB/AABC/TAB is desired but not required.

Experience: At least four years’ experience in residential or commercial construction, mechanical systems, electrical systems, or HVAC systems.

Objective: This position will work with all sides of design, construction, installation verification, testing and operation of MEP systems found in all types of facilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

Read and create flow diagrams, point lists, and sequences of operations for select HVAC systems.

Troubleshoot HVAC systems effectively for design issues, installation issues, control system issues or balance issues.

Effectively discuss mechanical system alternatives for a given facility, including the respective benefits and limitations.

Review submittals against construction documents and select appropriate pre-functional checklists for a given project.

Write a complete functional test plan for small to medium size projects based on the construction documents and contractor submittals including control system submittals.

Ability to develop clear and concise written reports that convey technical information.

Provide field support to Engineers and Project Managers

Proactively keep clients and stakeholders informed of project status and changes

Build and maintain relationships with new and existing clients by acting as a trusted advisor

Maintain a practical understanding of the design process (i.e. load calculations, duct design, piping design, equipment selection, control sequences and points lists)

Have a thorough understanding of electricity, plumbing systems and HVAC Systems

Functional understanding of Direct Digital Control (DDC) Systems

Able to thoroughly understand reading plans and specifications


Possess a strong mechanical aptitude

Ability to work well under pressure

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and organization skills

Experience with SkySpark simulation software a plus

Out of town travel required and may be on short notice.
