Position: Senior Technology Designer

Location: Lakewood, Fort Collins or Avon, Colorado

Firm: BG Buildingworks, Inc. (BG) is a mid-size mechanical, electrical, plumbing, technology, lighting, acoustics engineering design and facility commissioning consulting firm. We have multiple offices located in the Western United States including Avon, Colorado; Denver, Colorado, Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. BG has an opportunity for a motivated Senior Technology Designer

Classification: Exempt

Objective:

Responsible for applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of building technology systems. Provide technology systems consulting, design, and construction support from solution conceptualization through system turnover. A lead position, this role includes technical direction and supervision over a group of technology systems designers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Works under minimal supervision with broad direction

  • Works with project stakeholders to establishdesign criteria

  • Provides consulting to project stakeholders and design team to present, evaluate, and select solutions

  • Conceptualizes initial design approach and develops solutions from concept through schematic design, design development, and creation of construction documents

  • Performs calculations, coordination, and selection/specification to provide complete systems designs

  • Creates rough-order-magnitude cost estimates for systems under purview

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates activities to ensure that project goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters

  • Supports designs through construction contract administration process

  • Serves as a liaison between clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design team members

  • Provides technical oversight to junior staff

  • Assists with leadership of technology-specific internal standards development

  • Demonstrates increasing ability to generate projects including preparing proposals and budgets for projects (indicators are repeat clients, successful proposals, network of contacts, and referrals from clients)

  • Manages workload, information flow, and staff resources efficiently

  • Demonstrates a developing competence across all technical areas of their work (computer, technical writing, verbal communication, presentation skills; etc); learns from experiences; seeks feedback from more experienced staff

  • Demonstrates a mastery of inter-discipline coordination

  • Provides project management efforts on technology-focused projects

  • May provide mentorship to junior staff

  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

  • Proficiency with applicable software applications (Autodesk AutoCAD & Revit, EASE, Microsoft Office suite) and trade tools (testers, meters, etc.)

Education:

Associates degree in architecture, engineering, or related area required or advanced technical training. Bachelors degree (or higher) in Architectural Engineering or Electrical Engineering preferred.

Registrations:

BICSI RCDD or AVIXA CTS-D required; both preferred. Other BICSI credentials, ASIS International PSP, and vendor-specific certifications beneficial.

Experience:

8+ years of active design and consulting experience in building technology systems, including but not limited to information transport, structured cabling, audiovisual, electronic safety & security, wireless communications/distributed antenna systems, and building integration systems.
