Position: Technology Designer II

Location: Lakewood, Fort Collins or Avon, Colorado

Firm: BG Buildingworks, Inc. (BG) is a mid-size mechanical, electrical, plumbing, technology, lighting, acoustics engineering design and facility commissioning consulting firm. We have multiple offices located in the Western United States including Avon, Colorado; Denver, Colorado, Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. BG provides a wide spectrum of consulting services related to building and infrastructure design, operation, commissioning and sustainability. Services are provided nationwide and include homes, healthcare, government, education, commercial/mixed-use and hospitality clients. BG has an opportunity for a motivated Technology Designer

Classification: Exempt


Define and develop designs, including plans, specifications, reports, and estimates, for building technology systems.

Essential Duties:

  • Conceptualizes the initial design approach for, as well as being responsible for, the consulting and design work on projects of limited scope

  • Assists in the design approach, development, and design work on projects of a complex scope

  • Resolves a variety of complex problems (i.e. conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, sequencing and scheduling challenges, difficult coordination requirements, etc.)

  • Creates and documents most correspondence on projects

  • Assists with creating drawings/plans and writing specifications

  • Reviews construction submittals and provides clarifying information during construction

  • Performs periodic construction site observations

  • Actively pursues professional growth through experience and exposure

  • Takes an interest and participates in relevant industry organizations

  • Obtains relevant industry credentials and certifications

  • Maintains positive relationships with co-workers and clients

  • Manages workload effectively to meet internal and external deadlines

  • Demonstrates a developing competence across all technical areas of their work (computer, technical writing, verbal communication, presentation skills, etc.)

  • Develops an understanding of bi-directional impacts of technology systems on other building systems (inter-discipline coordination)

  • Assists with technology-specific internal standards development

  • May provide oversight and mentorship to junior staff

  • May provide project management efforts on technology-focused projects of limited scope

  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

  • Proficiency with applicable software applications (Autodesk AutoCAD & Revit, EASE, Microsoft Office suite) and trade tools (testers, meters, etc.)


Associates degree in architecture, engineering, or related area required or advanced technical training. Bachelors degree (or higher) in Architectural Engineering or Electrical Engineering preferred.


BICSI RCDD or AVIXA CTS required; both preferred. Vendor-specific certifications are beneficial.


3-8 years of active design experience in building technology systems, including but not limited to information transport, structured cabling, audiovisual, electronic safety & security, wireless communications/distributed antenna systems, and building integration systems.
