JOB SUMMARYThe HFC Designer III generates system design in the most cost effective mannerwhile meeting Charter Communications and the department s standards andspecifications. Under limited supervision, prepares and maintains detaileddesign drawings, schematics or specifications, typically using ComputerAided Design (CAD) software. Works closely with design originators(e.g., engineers, designers) to resolve design details ordiscrepancies, or to prepare drawings of unusual, complex, or originaldesigns, which require a high degree of precision using CAD (ComputerAided Drafting) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) equipment.Creates, modifies and controls detailed two and three dimensional parts andassembly drawings from engineers' and technicians' sketches, plans,written and verbal instructions. Develops and maintains drafting standards andprocedures. Evaluates and recommends purchase of CAD/CAE-related computerhardware and software. May work with system management including filemaintenanMAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESActively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance thecustomer experience.Design complex extensions and complete small system redesigns, in accordancewith the appropriate design specificationsUtilize PC design software programs to complete forward & reverse system RF design workUtilize PC CAD software programs to post Fiber Designs, in accordance withthe Charter Communications standards and specificationsProcess engineering change orders to ensure that all related work iscomplete, accurate and all related documentation is acquired and routedproperlyPerform quality control checks on field mapping notes and/or map digitizingto ensure all drafting specifications and RF design specifications are metAdd up footages that are associated with field mapping notes, digitizingrouting maps, and design maps while differentiating between aerial andunderground plant as requiredServe as technical liaison for construction and technical operations group byproviding necessary information to construction or maintenance personnel, ona timely basis, including strand maps, design maps, BOMs, preparescharts, graphs, and sketches of vertical details and SOW documents invarious fIndependently research and recommend build network specification files relatedto HFC and passive based architectureProject a perception of influence to cross-boundary partners whiletroubleshooting network performance and outage support in support ofconstruction restoration intervals. Additionally assert team leadership indirect technical expertise for construction and technical operations onOSP-Design M&Ps, roles, expectations and architectureComplete special projects as assignedContribute to project coordination and administrative functions by maintainingassociated records, providing reports as necessary and processing relatedinvoicesMaintain back-ups for the Design Department s serversProvide training regarding design computer programs and design departmentprocedures and specificationsBuild and/or critique design profiles to ensure that all specifications havebeen entered properly and that all program generated design outputs arecomplete and accurateMake detailed computations to determine scale, layout and accurate placementof new land base informationCreate complicated Fiber Splicing Matrixes for projectsSchedule work assignments and monitor project flow and statusMaintain accurate weekly production recordsDesign and draft FTTP, EPON, and/or HFC optical networks using multipletools (Bentley, AutoCAD, etc) and CATV standard terminologyDocument as-build updates for project reconciliationReview Design considerations for both short term and long term needs inrelationship to node sizing, powering, and addressingDraw accurate routing conclusions that reflect cost estimate for theavailability requestAll other duties as assignedREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSSkills/Abilities and KnowledgeAbility to read, write, speak and understand EnglishProficient Spa
