Managed Business Solutions Dam Safety Engineer (Instrumentation focus) in Lakewood, Colorado

Managed Business Solutions is seeking is seeking a Dam Safety Engineer with instrumentation focused experience to work on dam safety projects. This is a demanding, multi-disciplinary environment that supports a nationwide dam safety program.

  • 4 years of experience related to dam safety engineering in one of the following disciplines: geotechnical, engineering geology, structural, hydrologic/hydraulic. Experience shall include dam related: inspection, design, construction and/or risk analyses.

  • Work with contract and federal management to lead engineering, scientific and other support staff in the performance of the dam safety, engineering processes and resultant products to support the needs of the BIA’s Dam Safety, Security and Emergency Management Branch.

  • Responsible for planning, coordinating, installing, monitoring, and maintaining dam instrumentation equipment in cooperation with senior dam safety engineers and scientists and operations personnel including the following:

  • SCADA systems

  • Early Warning systems

  • Weather sensors including air and water temperature, rainfall, and relative humidity sensors

  • Subsurface seepage piezometric sensors

  • Surface water flowrate and level sensors

  • Extensometers, inclinometers, and stress/strain gages for measuring structural and geotechnical deformations

  • Topgraphic survey equipment

  • Surface water flowrate and level sensors

  • Power supply and data storage/communication systems for all of the above

  • Advise federal management, scientists, engineers, dam tenders, and tribal members on dam safety program management as it pertains to an exhaustive scope of services in both a formal (presentation) and informal (conversation) setting.

  • Support the multi-disciplinary needs of the BIA’s respective programs.

  • Support various needs of the project and the dynamic schedule inherent in a nationwide science and engineering program.

  • Communicate professionally and effectively with a variety of subject-matter experts and project contributors.

  • Familiarity with Federal Guidelines for Dam Safety.

  • Familiarity with standards of practice related to dam safety engineering, dam design, dam rehabilitation, dam construction, and dam safety emergency action planning.


  • Minimum: B.S. in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or related engineering degree required; M.S. in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or related engineering degree preferred.

  • P.E. or P.G. registration required (registration must be issued by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico).

Environment (Working conditions):

This position will be mostly stationary requiring some movement around the office and frequent communication with others. The average working hours will be 8 hours per day for this position.
