As a Structural Engineer, you will be using yourskills and expertise to design, evaluate, and certify our cutting edgeproducts and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced missionpayloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbitaland space exploration systems. You'll examine complex metallic and compositestructures and systems. Your technical duties involve the design anddevelopment of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.At SNC's Space Systems Group (SSG) we are not only the creator of theDream Chaser spacecraft, but also the designer and manufacturer of rocketengines and components, systems that sustain life in deep space, as wellas systems and satellites that improve life here on Earth. The work of ourSpace Systems team not only supports the U.S. government (includingNASA), but also commercial customers and international organizations.Primary Responsibilities Include:Support the development of primary and secondary flight structures for theDream Chaser Cargo System through structural stress analysis, using bothfinite element methods and hand calculations.Familiarity with fiber reinforced polymer composites analysis includingclassical laminate theory and finite element modeling techniques is required.The analysts will work with test engineers to develop full-scale testconditions that successfully envelop flight conditions for critical failuremodes.Originate specifications, control documents, verification and validationplans, procedures, reports, or other documentation in support of designand development activitiesPrepare material for, and conduct, periodic design reviewsExecute engineering design and development activities consistent with Customerquality, cost, and schedule requirementsMust-haves:Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, AerospaceEngineering, Civil Engineering or other related discipline and typically 6ormore years of relevant experienceUnderstandingof engineering principles and practicesBasic knowledge of Computer Aided Engineering toolsExperience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teamsExposure to Static and/or Dynamic AnalysesPreferred:Experience in Engineering Simulation using Finite Element structural analysis(FEA) tools such as MSC Patran, Nastran, FEMAP, or ANSYSExperience performing fatigue and damage tolerance analysis utilizing toolssuch as NASGRO or AFGROWStatic test analysis and test correlationLaminate optimizationDynamic loads analysisDevelopment and application of spacecraft and aircraft loads and environmentsFamiliarity with progressive failure analysis and damage toleranceFamiliarity with NASA and/or FAA structural analysis standardsAbility to perform classical analysis using industry standard hand calculationmethodsKnowledge of industry-standard mechanical design principles, to include,but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, materialhardware selection, manufacturing and production processesAbility to author substantiation reportsBackground in the Aerospace and Defense IndustryThe ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required.IMPORTANT NOTICE:To conform to U.S. Government international trade regulations, applicantmust be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protectedindividual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtainthe required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or U.S.DepartmenAt Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) we deliver customer-focused technologyand best-of-breed integrations in the aerospace and defense sectors.
