Sierra Nevada Corporation Structural Engineer III - Thermal Protection Systems (Contra in Louisville, Colorado

These cover a very wide range from advanced missionpayloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbitaland space exploration systems. You'll examine complex metallic and compositestructures and systems. Your technical duties involve the design anddevelopment of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.In this role, you will primarily be responsible for performing structuralanalysis, using finite element methods and hand calculations. You will beassigned structural analysis tasks that may include structural sizing forprimary and secondary structure, non-conformance evaluations, mass tradestudies, test analysis, model correlation, and conceptual level studies.The Space Systems business area, based in Louisville, Colorado withoperations in Madison, Wisconsin and Durham, North Carolina, designs andmanufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmentalsystems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government(including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations.Primary Responsibilities Include:Support the development of Thermal Protection Systems (TPS) for the DreamChaser Cargo System through structural analysis, using both finite elementmethods and hand calculationsProficiency with FEMAP/NASTRAN analysis tools and methodsProficiency with MATLAB programming and automation (desired)Knowledge of TPS materials (such as AETB tile and strain isolation pads)and their unique characteristics (desired)The analysts will work with test engineers to develop full-scale testconditions that successfully envelop flight conditions for critical failuremodes.Originate specifications, control documents, verification and validationplans, procedures, reports, or other documentation in support of designand development activitiesPrepare material for, and conduct, periodic design reviewsExecute engineering design and development activities consistent with Customerquality, cost, and schedule requirementsMust-haves:Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, AerospaceEngineering, Civil Engineering or other related discipline and typically6ormore years of relevant experienceUnderstandingof engineering principles and practicesKnowledge of Computer Aided Engineering toolsAbility towork in multi-disciplinary design and development teamsExperienceto Static and/or Dynamic AnalysesPreferred:Experience in Engineering Simulation using Finite Element structural analysis(FEA) tools such as MSC Patran, Nastran, FEMAP, or ANSYSExperience performing fatigue and damage tolerance analysis utilizing toolssuch as NASGRO or AFGROWAbility to perform classical analysis using industry standard hand calculationmethodsKnowledge of industry-standard mechanical design principles, to include,but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, materialhardware selection, manufacturing and production processesAbility to author substantiation reportsBackground in the Aerospace and Defense IndustryThe ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required.IMPORTANT NOTICE:To conform to U.S. Government international trade regulations, applicantmust be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protectedindividual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtainthe required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or U.S.DepartmenAt Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) we deliver customer-focused technologyand best-of-breed integrations in the aerospace and defense sectors.
