EWI Colorado is seeking to build our capabilities team supporting inspection development and deployment offering or related research and development activities within a business model driven by customer interactions to assess their manufacturing, quality, and inspection challenges. The inspection development and deployment processes involve assessing the customer s challenges, defining requirements, architectural concept development, project planning, cost estimating, feasibility and proof of concept activities, full system development, deployment, and validation testing activities all to meet customer needs. The capabilities team also executes applied research and development projects to grow capabilities and reputation within materials, manufacturing, computational, and nondestructive inspection disciplines. EWI is seeking various candidates to facilitate team growth and will create appropriate engineering titles and roles commensurate with experience and areas of expertise. Highest preference will be given toward highly skilled and experienced engineers with nondestructive inspection development/deployment backgrounds or a proven record in research execution and funding strategies.


Conduct applied research in the areas of NDE, materials, manufacturing, computational and nondestructive inspection disciplines

Assess customer s manufacturing, quality, and inspection challenges to drive requirements for the proposal and planning process

Conduct planning and cost estimating for projects

Develop concepts and architectural frameworks for inspection methods and systems

Perform feasibility and proof of concept activities

Execute the full-system life-cycle to meet customer expectations

Assist other engineers with support such as research, lab work, or other tasks

Write clear, concise, and accurate technical proposals, reports, and/or documents for customers and/or internal audience

Effectively deliver oral presentations meant to inform or persuade both internal (peer and manager) and external (client) audiences

Offer input into strategies to grow the business

Follow-up and interact with customers on reactive sales transactions; initiate the reactive sales process without guidance

Interact with customer via inquiry process to explore sales opportunities


Nondestructive inspection development expertise using Electromagnetics, Ultrasound, Phased Array Ultrasound, or Laser Ultrasound

Custom process development and deployment for manufacturing, test, or inspection applications

Understanding of business challenges in manufacturing and industrialization

Demonstrated technical writing capability with strong ability to develop technical work scopes for incorporation with proposals

Exercises initiative and creativity within assigned project work

Utilizes judgment in communication styles and behaviors; recognizes impact on other team members

Exhibits proficient written and verbal communication with customers both internal and external

Proven adaptability and flexibility as a part of team

Ability to maintain excellent customer relationships both internal and external

Proven success in a team-oriented environment

Strong ability to plan and organize tasks

Willingness to travel periodically (10-15%) to customers and conferences

Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)


Software architecture, design, implementation and testing

Applied math, artificial intelligence, and/or machine learning

Architectural design of DAQ and signal processing systems

Computational physics or materials modeling

Probability statistics and predictive reliability modeling

Research and development roadmaps and funding strategies


Office environment and laboratory/light production floor with ventilation, climate-control system, moderate lighting, and moderate noise level;

Use finger and hand dexterity to type, adjust, move, handle, perform, operate, install, attach, remove, apply, grasp, grip, manipulate, and measure;

Use vision to see, analyze, and adjust;

Frequently move, transport, rotate, reach, pull, twist, adjust position, push, stand, stoop, bend and crouch; and

Lift ten to 20 pounds on a frequent basis and 40 to 80 pounds occasionally


B.S. in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or similar area of study

M.S. or Ph.D. in relevant area of study is preferable


Five (5) or more years in manufacturing inspection system development

Experience with the development of technical work scopes for incorporation with proposals
