JOB SUMMARY: The CAD Technician/Designer III will participate withtransportation design engineers in preparing construction drawings for varioustransportation projects involving roadway, geotechnical and structuraldesign. Job will be based in Thornton office.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Use CAD software to support engineers by preparing drawings, sketchesand diagrams Collect and analyze information for project designs Develop design concepts by working from notes, sketches,standards, and design criteria as well as from oral instruction anddiscussion with design engineers Assist engineers with design and detailing of various components,including bridges, retaining walls, paving, drainage, site work,structures, etc. for horizontal and vertical layout. Provide drafting and other support to engineering staff, includingpreparation of cost estimates. Prepare preliminary and final construction drawings for paving,grading and drainage plans Prepare alignments, roadway plans and profiles, and other plans thatuse plan-view reference files Develop cross sections, 3D surfaces, earthwork, and other quantity take-offs Develop layouts using InRoads or Civil 3D for projects such as retainingwall layouts. Adhere to requirements of Company Quality Management System (QMS)and provide guidance to other technicians Other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate s Degree in CADD, Engineering Graphics, CivilTechnology, or a related field Minimum of 10 years of continuous and progressive experience in supportor design of transportation projects Advanced level proficiency or higher in use of AutoCAD and Civil 3D Proficiency in Microstation and InRoads Proficiency in Microsoft Office with strong skills in Excel Possesses ability to complete basic mathematical calculations Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work in a team environment Flexibility and ability to work effectively on multiple concurrentprojects, meeting established timelines Must be proficient in reading and understanding surveys, drawings,and legal descriptions. Final candidates will be asked to provide references and sample projects.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Familiarity with CDOT standards and procedures a plus. Previous experience in application of standards and design criteria totransportation projects.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Working at computer work station for extended periods.WORK ENVIRONMENT:Office environment with computer work station.
