Maxar is seeking an exceptional Robotics Mechatronics Engineering Intern to join our 2020 Summer Internship Program in Westminster, CO.
At Maxar, we are developing and building next-generation space automation capabilities for planetary exploration and on-orbit satellite servicing and repair. We are the only satellite manufacturer with the ability to leverage robotic technologies proven on the Space Shuttle, the International Space Station as well as the Mars landers and rovers.
Work is varied but typically involves design, assembly, and testing of aerospace and terrestrial robotic or mechatronic systems for NASA, DARPA, and other government and commercial customers. Work can be tailored depending on the experience and interests of selected candidates. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to play a role on projects with significant impact on the future of the aerospace and robotics industries.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, assemble, integrate, and/or test laboratory, terrestrial, and flight robotics hardware
Prepare and present designs to internal teams
Assist in the delivery of robotic and electromechanical systems/subsystems
Document design details, interfaces, test plans/procedures, and processes
Minimum Requirements:
Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Must be a rising Sophomore or higher currently pursuing Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, mechatronics, or robotics engineering
Demonstrated experience programming in at least one common software language (e.g. Python, C/C++, Java, LabView)
Demonstrated experience with PCB/PCBA design and/or integration of off-the-shelf electrical subsystems into mechatronic assemblies
Working knowledge of motors, actuators, sensors, controls, and/or robotic system considerations and design
Comfortable working on interdisciplinary teams including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers
Demonstrated ability to translate engineering principles to practical designs
Strong written and verbal communications skills
Desired Qualifications:
Hands-on skills such as machining, soldering, mechanical assembly, electromechanical integration, etc.
Demonstrated experience with LabView, ROS, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or similar robotics/mobile systems platforms or tools
Experience in design, drafting, and/or assembly, integration, and test for spacecraft, aircraft, automotive, or other mass-critical structures
Work Schedule:
- 9/80 work week with every-other Friday off; some overtime and travel may be required.
