Job Description:

Terracon’s Denver office is seeking a Field Environmental Engineer to join our Team! Our Denver office has a diverse client base in both public and private sectors working in the commercial, industrial, government and institutional markets. As a Field Engineer, your fieldwork efforts will include: Phase I Environmental Site Assessments; Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs); underground storage tank (UST) removals; soil excavation oversight; remedial and vapor mitigation systems installations; chemical amendment injections; operation, maintenance, and monitoring (OM&M) of remedial and vapor mitigation systems, aquifer testing, and sampling of various media. Your office work will include: reviewing, analyzing and reducing data collected during fieldwork; groundwater modeling; assisting in remedial and vapor mitigation system design; developing computer-aided design (CAD) drawings and associated report preparation, all under the direction of a Professional Engineer (P.E.) and/or Professional Geologist (P.G.).

General Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Phase I ESAs in accordance with ASTM 1527-13;

  • Conduct Phase II ESA’s under ASTM 1903-11;

  • Assists in preparing the scope of work for both routine and more complex site investigations to measure and sample physical and non-physical properties of soil from a hydrogeological, geological, or environmental standpoint;

  • Advance soil borings, install monitoring wells, classify soils, and perform subcontractor oversight;

  • Under general supervision conducts and documents soil, groundwater, and air sampling and remediation and vapor mitigation systems OM&M;

  • Implements technical requirements to complete client projects involving sampling, testing, and collecting data and/or documenting on-site activities;

  • Assist senior staff in developing conceptual site models based on collaborative review of data generated during a Phase II ESA;

  • Subcontractor oversight of the installation and construction of remedial and vapor mitigation systems;

  • Conduct site visits, field observations and field data collection and/or field assignments;

  • Office duties include data reduction and evaluation, technical analysis, remedial and vapor mitigation design, groundwater modeling, and report preparation;

  • Apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes; and,

  • May have limited client contact pertaining to specific projects/tasks.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental, chemical, or civil engineering or related degree.

  • Minimum 0-2 years of demonstrated experience in environmental project work.

  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug screen and have an acceptable driving record.

  • High level of verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and technical writing skills.

  • Commitment to Terracon’s safety program and culture


  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI).

  • Computer-aided Design and Drafting (CADD) and Geographic Information System (GIS) experience.

  • Groundwater modeling experience (e.g., MODFLOW and/or AQTESOLV™).

  • Completed OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training.

  • Knowledge of CDPHE, CDLE-OPS, CERCLA, RCRA, or other applicable state or federal regulations.

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Salary Range: $51,800-$72,500
